Heaven’s Storehouse is a food distribution ministry of the Oakwood University Church in Huntsville, AL. Each year Heaven’s Storehouse volunteers make it possible for families to have a Thanksgiving meal!
In November 2019the Heaven’s Storehouse volunteers, who were assisted by other church members and students from Oakwood Adventist Academy, filled 260 large bags with food for distribution to community families needing assistance. God has provided the means for this outreach ministry to have food items for deserving Huntsville residents through the financial support of the church and individual contributions from its members to support this effort annually with the number of families receiving food increasing each year.
On a weekly basis, volunteers from Heaven’s Storehouse distribute food each Monday to those in need. Frances Calhoun, Director, and Associates, Elton Lester, Vern Joyner, and Linnie Dixon lead in this initiative and are supported by 25 dedicated volunteers.
Benefiting from Heaven’s Storehouse are individuals who are attempting to extend their resources to feed their families, single parent families, university students, and those who are a part of the Huntsville homeless community. Recipients also reflect different ethnic groups and persons over the age of 18.
When individuals enter Heaven’s Storehouse, in addition to seeking food assistance, they are often looking for a smile, hug, or words of encouragement. Many of them comment about our Breath of Life Telecast and are familiar with Carlton P. Byrd, D.Min., Senior Pastor of Oakwood University Church and Director of Breath of Life Ministries. As Seventh-day Adventist Christians, our contact with those in need through Heaven’s Storehouse is an opportunity to share God’s love and compassion through giving and service. The words of Christ are the impetus for this ministry, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me” (Matthew 25:40).
