TRANSFORMED! by Dorian Melo

The 2018 Latino Camp Meeting of South Central conference was a special event where the Latino constituents gather to fellowship and worship together. Memorial Day weekend all the Latino family headed to Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama to celebrate camp meeting under the theme TRANSFORMED!.

The main speaker at camp meeting was a great preacher, pastor Hermes Taveras Bueno of the Greater New York Conference. Taveras is known as one of the biblical scholars of modern times in the Seventh-day Adventists Hispanic world. Pastor Taveras took us deeply through the pages of the Bible through his powerful preaching.

Special guests – Wonder Bello, Felipe Andino,  and Hermes Taveras Bueno

More than 1,200 people attended and were engaged in all the activities planned. This year a Children church was planned where children ages 4 to 12, worshipped with age appropriated worship style. In addition, Mrs. Sonia Paul, women’s ministries director for South Central Conference, presented a seminar for the women in attendance.

Pastor Felipe Andino delighted all with his music ministry and presented seminars on family life. The youth and young adults were not forgotten, a forum was planned where Pastor Andino provided key strategies for the youth and young adults to navigate living in their world. The encampment was serenaded by Wonder Bello’s music ministry.

Pastor Melo baptizes his son.

As every year, baptism is a high point of Latino camp meeting. Three precious souls were baptized. Among them, Adrián Melo, son of our Multicultural Director, Pastor Dorian Melo.

Our president, Pastor Benjamin Jones, Jr. in his remarks encouraged South Central latinos to move forward in preaching and sharing the gospel. He also restated His unwavering support and commitment to empowering each member in accomplishing the goal.

The Latino community of South Central Conference will continue to celebrate this great festival every year. It is the hope and goal that God will allow us the opportunity to see our attendance grow to over 1500.
